NBCHS MUSIC PARENTS MEETING May 5, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm
1. Minutes from March meeting were read, all in favour, carried.
2. Reports
Treasurer’s Report
B-Direct: $9 419.45
Savings: $12 506.40
Bingo: $444.18
· Jazz Retreat – still haven’t been able to resolve the double billing at the hotel – will try to write a letter and send a copy of the bank statement and receipt, Heather to follow up.
· Heather will not be leaving at the end of the year. She will stay on for one more year as the treasurer.
· Heather will follow up on NSF cheque returned.
· Anyone who has outstanding receipts from the band trip is to submit them to Heather for reimbursement.
· Motion made by Heather Parkinson to pick up a $50.00 Sobeys gift certificate for Rick H. Seconded by Larry, all in favour, carried.
Director’s Report
· The trip went very well. Everyone had a great time.
· Grade 8 Honour Band will be here on Thursday, May 7/09.
o Have lots of volunteers.
o There will be a concert on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
· There will be a farewell on May 28, 2009 during school hours for Elgin Wyatt. The band will be playing.
· Final Concert: June 4/09.
· The band will be playing for the Grad & Undergrad awards – Paul will let the students know the dates.
· Paul will look into developing an Award for students with “long service” with the band. The award will be given out at the Final Concert.
· The school is looking at taking out the lockers in front of the band room and installing glass cabinets so we can display student/band awards and pictures.
3. Old Business
· The Rodeo Dance worked out well.
§ Ran into some issues with volunteers backing out at the last minute, so had to hire 3 people to help – paid them $50.00 each. Contacted Sharon Taylor and she agreed.
· Motion was made by Heather Parkinson to purchase $50.00 Sobeys gift certificate to thank her for setting up the Rodeo Dance for the band. Seconded by Dennis A, all in favour, carried.
· June 5/09 – Teacher’s Evening – there are enough volunteers.
§ Will go through supplies and stock up as necessary.
4. New Business
· JoAnne Casper – Daughter is getting married on August 2/09 – would like the band parents to work the bar.
o Wants us to purchase all the alcohol and supplies and run the Toonie Bar.
§ Will follow up with JoAnne and discuss at next meeting.
· JoAnne Ganert – Battleford Furniture is having an Auction on May 14, 2009, would like us to organize and run the concession stand.
o Will have to decline - short notice.
· New band teacher – Amy Francias
· Saturday, May 9, 2009 there is a concert by the Gallery Singers at 7:00pm – Paul will be performing.
· Dry Grad Bar – June 26, 2009 Denise Atymachuk is the contact with help from Heather Parkinson.
o Suggestion to charge $2.00 this year.
o Have two sets of hours that volunteers can work – 8pm – midnight, and midnight to 4:00am.
· Looking at having a year-end BBQ. Band parents buy the hamburgers, and may do a potluck for the rest.
o Suggestion was made to hold it at a larger facility, like the Air Cadet Hall, or the Kinsmen Band Hall.
§ Heather/Paul will look into booking.
